As some of you might now, I am running for Council Chair of ICU.
What is Council?
Council is one of the Imperial College Union committees. In fact, it is the most important; it amends, creates and determines policy for the entire Imperial Union.
What is the role of the Council Chair?
Pretty much what it says on the tin. The person in this role has the responsibility to chair the meetings of the Council. It is a position that requires impartiality, an ability to reason and make sure the constitution is followed at all times.
Why me?
It's a tough role because it requires complete emotional detachment from situations posed to the council. It requires an ability to process large amounts of information and maintain an assertive stance during the meetings. Most importantly, it requires the utmost respect for the role the Council plays at the College. I would not dare walk out of a council meeting, no matter how tough the going gets.
I believe I have the decisive authority needed for a role like this. My highly relevant past experience having previously chaired model UN conferences and debating championships will stand me in good stead. In addition I have founded and run two companies that combined, have helped shape the lives of thousands of people. I intend to keep doing the same as Council Chair.
Most importantly, I actually do care. I care about our university, and I care about how it's run.
